Languages

List of Languages (By grouping).

The following details all of the various languages spoken throughout the region of Caldaria. They are grouped into language families, which are similar in grammar and word usage, and can be fairly easily translated between. Some families of languages are very similar, representing a group of dialects. Others are more dissimilar, though generally a speaker of one language can generally understand and communicate with a speaker of another language of the same family fairly well, relying on gestures and simple words to fill in gaps with only minimal misunderstandings.

The Human Language Family

Simple, yet capable of great expression, these are the languages spoken by humans.

  • Caldarese – Official tongue of the realm.
  • Samarian – Language of the seafaring traders of The Twin Cities.
  • Abolese – Spoken by the monks and desert-dwellers of Abol. Closely related to Caldarese.

The Dwarven Language Family

Rough, harsh-sounding, and exact, these are the dwarven languages.

  • Dunmarian – Language of the dwarves of the region.
  • Gnomish – A highly technical language spoken by the gnomes of Dunmar.
